Custom Domain
We know your style is unique and your Music Glue profile should showcase just that, which is why we've introduced Custom Domains. Custom Domain allows you to point a domain of your own to your Music Glue site, removing the "musicglue.com" from your URL. Having your own domain name contributes to building a strong brand identity, look professional and can help your fans find you more easily online.
Why it's so good...
- Build your brand
- Get discovered online more easily
- Easily recognisable
- More memorable
- Increased trustworthiness for fans
How to set up your domain
- Login to your Music Glue account
-
Click on Apps and install the Custom Domain one located under Profile & Setting Apps.
-
Go to Settings > Domains (picture below), to add your domain. Basic instructions are available on this page but for more detailed setup instructions keep reading!
Detailed setup instructions
If you do not already own a domain, you will need to purchase one from a domain registrar such as Gandi.net, GoDaddy.com, Name.com or 1and1.com.
Once you have purchased a domain, you will then want to either:
- Configure a subdomain e.g. store.myband.com
- Configure a root domain e.g. myband.com (also known as APEX or "naked" domain)
Configuring a subdomain. e.g. store.myband.com or www.myband.com
- Log into your domain registrar control panel
- Find the DNS settings management area
- Add or edit the CNAME record for the subdomain in question
- The record must point to the host supplied in the Settings > Domains area of your Music Glue account:
Example CNAME record configuration for shop.myband.com:
Name/Hostname: shop
Value/Points To: YOUR_UNIQUE_ID.public.edge.musicglue.com.
In your domain registrar account, this may look like:
After you have set up your CNAME record, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
Configuring a root domain (also known as APEX or "naked" domain) e.g. myband.com
To associate your root domain with Music Glue store you have two options:
- Use an ALIAS or ANAME record (not the same as an A record) to point the root domain to your store
- Use a redirect service provided by your domain registrar to redirect your root domain to a subdomain (e.g., shop.myband.com) that points to your Music Glue store
Option 1: Using an ALIAS/ANAME
- Log into your domain registrar control panel
- Find the DNS settings management area
- Add or edit the ALIAS/ANAME record
- The record must point to the host supplied in the Settings > Domains area of your Music Glue account:
Example ALIAS/ANAME configuration for myband.com:
Name/Hostname: @
Value/Points To: YOUR_UNIQUE_ID.public.edge.musicglue.com.
In your domain registrar account, this may look like:
After you have set up your ALIAS/ANAME record, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
Option 2: Using a redirect service provided by your domain registrar
Most domain registrars provide a redirect service which will allow you to redirect requests for your root domain to a subdomain e.g. shop.myband.com.
Each individual registrar will have their own ways of setting up redirects, so consult their support documentation if you need assistance.
After you have configured your root domain to redirect to a subdomain, you will need to follow the above instructions to configure your subdomain.
What if my domain registrar doesn't support ALIAS/ANAME records and doesn't provide a redirect service?
Some domain registrars only support A name records for the root domain. A name records can only be used in conjunction with an IP address. Music Glue does not support A name records at this time.
If your domain registrar does not support redirects or root ALIAS records we recommend that you transfer your domain to one that supports these, such as Gandi: https://shop.gandi.net/en/domain/transfer
